Unit 3 projects

Slab mold

This piece was fairly easy. Something I would do differently next time would be to make sure the edges of the plate look even and smooth

plan:

-wedge a ball of clay

-flatten out a ball of clay by using slab roller

- put flat clay in a plate mold and let dry

- fire the plate

- paint with glaze

Coil vase

I like this technique a lot it was fun seeing it come together. Something I would do differently next time if I made this piece again I would be more careful to make the coils the same size.

plan:

- wedge out large ball of clay

-split large ball of clay into equal size smaller balls

- roll all the small balls of clay out until it looks like a thick string

- coil up one thick string to make a base for your pot

- keep adding on the thick sting top of one another while making sure you keep the inside smooth

- keep stacking them until your pot is as high as you would like.

Scerfedo

This piece was a little bit more difficult only because when I was carving the image into the glaze it was chipping and was hard to work with. something I would do differently if I made this again I would carve my piece while the glaze is still wet.

plan:

- wedge out ball of clay

-roll out a ball of clay in slab roller

- connect to two ends to each other of the flat clay to from a cup shape

- add a bottom to your cup

- let the cup  slightly dry then carve in your chosen design

- once the has been carved then you can glaze

Choice project

This project was really fun for me. I loved being able to create anything I wanted. I would change anything if I did this again.

plan:

- wedge out large ball of clay

-roll out a large ball of clay on the slab roller

- cut out two almond shapes pieces of clay

-stick the two pieces together but ensure there is a hollow opening at the bottom and the middle

- set your almond shape to the side

-roll out another piece of clay on the slab roller

- cut out the fins for the fish from the flat clay

- connect your fins to the fish body (almond shape)

- set fishes body to the side

- get a medium-sized ball of clay for the fish head

- sculpt out your fish head make sure to hollow it out

- connect the head to the body

- fire your fish then paint
